What we build on.
Three developments determine where value is created in the coming decades. They guide our choices in real estate, private equity and listed investments.
Demographics
Europe is growing in its cities and ageing everywhere. In urban regions the housing shortage keeps widening; at the same time more elderly and smaller households need different homes: smaller, more accessible, closer to care and amenities. Both movements run years ahead of what is being built. We invest where that scarcity is structural.
Decarbonisation
Buildings that use little energy keep their value, lower the portfolio's CO2 footprint and place less strain on nature. What we build meets the highest standard; what we buy and does not yet meet it, we bring to that level, from young stock to monuments.
Digitalisation
Digitalisation changes where and how people live, work and consume, and with it which real estate and which companies grow in value. It opens real estate segments that we follow alongside residential and add to the portfolio where they fit. In our own holdings, smart measurement of consumption and maintenance makes management better and accountability concrete.
